Fiddle Leaf Fig | Ficus Lyrata | Tropical Tuesday

Hey ya’ll! We are excited to be bringing new fun houseplant options to Denison, Tx! Today we will be talking about Fiddle Leaf Fig Trees! This has been a popular houseplant for several years now and I don’t think it’s going anywhere! Lets talk about how to take care of these babies!

Light: Fiddle leaf figs love light! They prefer to be in a sunny window and it’s ideal to give them as much light as possible. Its a good idea to turn these guys every few months. You may notice it “reaching” and growing to one side. This is the plants way of trying to get more light. To fix this, simply rotate your tree the other way.

Water: Let the top inch of soil dry out before watering again! I have found that this is about every week, however keep an eye on it because drying times vary. An over watered plant will develop brown spots on the leaves. An under watered plant will have brown leaves that drop. Make sure to water the soil thoroughly but do not let the plant sit in water. Allow all the water to drain out

Temperatures: These plants can grow indoors and prefer 65-75 degrees. They also not not like drafts and can dry out. If you need to raise the humidity around your plant, set it on a tray of gravel and fill the gravel with water.

Fertilizer: Feed your tree every month in the spring and summer. Do not fertilize in the winter! Use a fertilizer with an NPK ratio (Nitrogen – Phosphorous – Potassium) as close to 3:1:2 as possible!

Repotting: If you begin to see roots growing out of the bottom of the pot it is time to repot! Get a new pot that is 1-2 inches larger than your old pot. If your tree gets too large, you can cut back the roots instead to keep it in the current pot.

Toxicity: This plant is poisonous to people and pets when eaten.

Follow these tips and you will have a healthy and thriving Fiddle Leaf Fig! Thanks for reading!
